The Statewide Truck and Bus Enforcement Section is responsible for enforcing ARB regulations designed to improve air quality by reducing emissions generated by diesel-powered trucks and buses operating on the state’s roadways. Enforcement services provided by the Statewide Truck and Bus Enforcement Section focus primarily on conducting inspections of Heavy Duty Diesel truck and bus fleets subject to California emission regulations, investigating complaints, tips, and leads concerning potentially non-compliant vehicles and fleets, initiating enforcement actions where violations are found, and resolving these cases, including providing support in cases that are referred for litigation, and conducting outreach to assure the regulated community is aware of ARB regulations.
Under close supervision of an Air Resources Supervisor I and a team lead by technical staff, the incumbent will assist technical Enforcement staff and perform various tasks associated with: inspections of truck, bus, and Transport Refrigeration Unit (TRU) fleets subject to these rules, investigating complaints, tips, and leads concerning potentially non-compliant vehicles and fleets, initiating enforcement actions where violations are found, and resolving these cases, including providing support in cases that are referred for litigation. The incumbent will also review and interpret air quality data, air pollution regulation requirements, and use basic statistical and mathematical computational techniques to assist technical enforcement staff in identifying potential emission sources for inspection and/or investigation; conduct research and prepare clear and concise technical reports, correspondence, and documentation relating to air pollution. While conducting certain inspections, the incumbent will be working at elevated heights and/or near fast moving machinery or traffic. The incumbent will also assist with special project assignments. This position requires: a valid California driver’s license is required (please indicate on STD 678), may require an annual physical, participation in the DMV Pull Notice Program. The incumbent in this position may travel up to 25%.

Current state employees who are in the Air Resources Technician I or II classification or have list eligibility for the Air Resources Technician II/Air Resources Technician I classification.
