Job Description:


The Planning and Regulatory Development Section is seeking a highly motivated individual looking to join a dynamic team responsible for the development of mobile source emission reduction strategies and regulations. The section is within the Innovative Strategies Branch, and is responsible for developing and implementing the school bus portion of the Truck and Bus Regulation, the Lower-Emission School Bus Program, the Off-Road Mobile Agricultural Equipment Regulation, and providing support for other mobile source programs within the agency.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of various mobile source programs. Assignments will include technical work including the analysis of data, the evaluation of emission control technologies, and the costs of those technologies in order to develop policy recommendations. In addition, the candidate must be able to communicate the results of analysis clearly and accurately to management and impacted stakeholders. The candidate will also be responsible for coordinating with other groups within the Air Resources Board as well as outside agencies, including local air districts, businesses, communities, and advocacy groups.

This position may require approximately 10% travel.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: The most competitive candidate should be able to demonstrate that he/she can take initiative, be creative, and be able to effectively work on projects independently and within a supportive team environment. The candidate should also be able to communicate effectively, show the ability and desire to learn technical information, work cooperatively with other staff and agencies, be able to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines, use tact and good judgment when dealing with people, readily adapt to changing priorities, and possess a sense of humor. Experience with data analysis and preparing and giving presentations is highly desirable.
