The Regulation Development Section is seeking a technical expert who can complement the existing team and contribute to the Section's priorities. The priorities for this Section are: to advance the Board's ozone reduction program through development of control measures for evaporative emissions; and to support ARB's analytical capabilities for vehicle and engine emissions testing, including particulate matter (PM). To carry out its mission, the Section evaluates, designs, develops, and implements control measures to reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) evaporative emissions applicable to diverse sources such as recreational vehicle fueling systems and portable fuel cans. In addition, the Section collaborates with other divisions to develop motor vehicle test programs, conduct testing, and support regulatory proposals.
The incumbent is expected to bring to the Section significant technical expertise in the measurement and understanding of motor vehicle and engine emissions. The incumbent will develop regulations and participate in and/or initiate test programs. Study of measurement instrumentation and methods is expected to be a key activity.
The successful candidate will be a team player; possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills; has excellent written and oral communication skills; has ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously; pays attention to detail; takes initiative; and has excellent time management skills. Ability to keep abreast of the latest advances in measurement and laboratory methods is expected. Experience with evaporative and exhaust testing is desirable.
