Title: AIR POLLUTION SPECIALIST
Salary: $4,204.00 - $7,899.00
DUTIES: The Program Operations Section of the Climate Change Program Evaluation Branch has an opening for an enthusiastic Air Pollution Specialist to conduct a variety of activities related to the development and analysis of greenhouse gas emission reduction programs. The Program Operations Section is responsible for oversight of the California Cap-and-Trade Compliance Offset Program and plays an essential role in developing the systems and practices of the program. The position will use sound scientific principles and an understanding of the goals of the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB32) to develop an offsets verification program, modify the cap-and-trade regulation and compliance offset protocols, as appropriate, and develop new compliance offset protocols. The position also represents the Air Resources Board (ARB) in various group presentations to share technical expertise, train staff, and answer inquiries. The incumbent will also need to prepare project reports, keep abreast of related scientific developments, and maintain professional interactions both internally and outside the ARB. The position may act in a lead capacity or as part of a team. The position may require up to 10 percent travel.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate initiative, have excellent written and oral communication skills, have the ability to understand technical and policy issues, have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, work effectively with other staff and coordinate with community, industry and government stakeholders. The candidate must also be able to work independently or in a team setting and have excellent interpersonal skills. Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to evaluate technical data as well as a strong background in statistics and public policy. Specialized knowledge of or related to GHG offset programs including financial auditing, forestry practices, agricultural practices, coal mining, anaerobic digestion, or ozone depleting qualified candidates in substances is highly desirable.
