Title: AUTOMOTIVE EMISSION TEST SPECIALIST I
Salary: $15.20 - $18.46
The Heavy Duty Diesel In-Use Strategies Branch within the Mobile Source Control Division is seeking a dynamic individual to implement and maintain critical heavy duty vehicles and equipment for emission testing programs. Incumbent will be expected to assist professional staff in conducting dynamometer testing of heavy duty trucks and buses. Automotive Emissions Test Specialist Is (AETS) work on test project implementation and execution including preparation of test vehicles, preparation of sampling media, collection of testing parameters and sample ids, compiling test results, data entry, report generation, assisting with calibration and repairs of laboratory equipment, operate heavy duty vehicles on dynamometer and on road. The incumbent may interact with a variety of outside collaborators including other California agencies, universities, fleet owners, and industry stakeholders.
The successful candidate will demonstrate effective written, technical and verbal communication skills; attention to detail and ability to consistently follow written procedures; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and experience working with California's air quality emissions controls programs. This position requires strong organizational skills; ability to deal with multiple tasks and changing priorities. The candidate should have an interest in the experimental measurement of vehicle emissions, the factors affecting the accuracy of those measurements, and must possess the ability to act in coordination with the laboratory team in the performance of their duties. Basic understanding of internal combustion engines, diesel exhaust aftertreatment emission control technologies, and experimental measurement principles are strongly desired. Demonstrated ability to work on vehicles particularly heavy duty vehicles is a plus. Obtaining a commercial drivers license will be required for test vehicle operation. Laboratory operation is a coordinated effort among testing staff requiring high level of punctuality in attendence and completion of assigned duties. Ability to strictly adhere to scheduled working hours and meeting the assignement timelines is a must. Drug testing is mandatory to operate heavy duty vehicles and equipment.
