This is a Limited Term Intermittent position and may work at a maximum of 1500 hours per calendar year.
The On-Road Model Development Section of the Mobile Source Analysis Branch assesses on-road motor vehicle activity and emission factors in order to develop fundamental emissions inventory estimates and models. Current section projects are to focus on development of the new programming platforms and update the activity assumptions for EMFAC, ARB's on-road emissions inventory model. Long term projects are focused on continuous improvement of EMFAC, including development of new model emission factors, updating evaporative emission factors, and analysis of the impact of smog check program. Our staff is a highly specialized, motivated group of experts in the field of mobile source emissions modeling; most of the section staff have backgrounds in engineering, transportation planning, or environmental science and policy. We are looking for dynamic individuals with a strong work ethic, a commitment to the quality of work products, and a drive to achieve the goals of our team.
Under close supervision of the Section Manager, the Air Resources Technician II will assist in developing and updating mobile source emissions inventory models and emissions assessments for planning and regulatory development. The position requires close interaction and teamwork with Section and Branch staff. Specific tasks may include gathering, tabulating, and analyzing a variety of vehicle activity and emissions data, assisting in development emissions inventory methodologies, and preparing documentation and reports.
The successful candidate for this position will be enthusiastic and demonstrate initiative, have excellent written and oral communication skills, have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and have the ability to work effectively with other staff. Experience in mobile source emissions inventories is preferred, but not necessary. The candidate must be self-motivated, dependable and able to work independently. Expertise in SQL database, programming (Visual Basic, Perl, Python) and statistics is desirable, as is experience in Excel and Access. Enrollment in a college curriculum leading to a bachelor's or advanced degree in Engineering is highly desirable. Student Assistants-Engineering and Architectural Sciences are encouraged to apply.
