Duties: Under the general direction of the Chief of the Vendor Compliance Section (VCS), the Staff Services Analyst (SSA) travels statewide utilizing sound judgment to maneuver through remote, densely populated, and high-crime areas to conduct compliance investigations for the California WIC Program to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. The SSA must be familiar or willing to learn the rules and regulations relating to health care programs. This position requires up to 40% statewide travel to perform job related duties. The SSA also works as part of a team to investigate high risk vendors and handle vendor complaints such as trafficking, the sale of alcohol or tobacco, the sale of non-authorized food items and overcharges to the WIC Program. Write sanction letters including warning, disqualification and termination letters. Evaluate violations that impact other state and federal programs and makes the appropriate referrals to other agencies for action. Prioritize compliance activities, prepare on-site inspection reports, conducts follow-up investigations and is responsible for conducting peer reviews. Represent the California WIC Program during the administrative appeal process by testifying at hearings to explain the activities which lead to the sanctions filed against the vendor and assists with special projects as assigned by the Section Chief.
