Under the general direction of the IAD Manager (Supervising Tax Auditor III), the Business Taxes Specialist I or II (Auditor) is responsible for independently conducting audits and other evaluations of the Board of Equalization’s (BOE’s) administrative and accounting operations. Audits performed include: compliance, controls, financial, fraud investigation, information systems, operational and performance. Auditor is expected to independently create audit programs, perform field work, document findings to support recommendations, and prepare summary reports for Executive management. Auditor is responsible for identifying areas of high risk with the goals to improve operations and reduce fraud, waste and abuse. Auditor performs quality assurance (peer) reviews and assists in providing training. Performance of auditor duties and conduct shall align with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (Standards) and Code of Ethics.

Travel up to 10% of the time may be required. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations. (2) Applicants must submit a Statement of Qualifications. The Statement provides a narrative explanation of how the applicant’s education, training, experience, and skills meet the minimum and desirable qualifications for the position. Statements must be typed and not exceed two pages in length.

  1. Possession of minimum qualifications will be verified prior to interview.
  2. Only the most qualified candidates will be selected for an interview.
  3. Prior to employment with BOE, a background investigation (BI) may be conducted. The BI consists of a Personal History Statement and fingerprinting through the Department of Justice. The BI will check criminal and civil records and, if applicable, verify education and check driving records.
  4. The position may be subject to the disclosure and disqualification requirements concerning economic conflict of interest in government work, pursuant to the BOE Conflict of Interest Code and the Political Reform Act.
  5. Applicants who fail to submit complete applications and a statement of qualifications by the final filing date will not be considered for appointment.
