Job Description:
Under the general direction and supervision of a Supervising Tax Auditor II, the Business Taxes Specialist II (BTS II) serves as lead auditor over teams of experienced auditors on the most difficult and complex audits and actively participates in the conduct of these audits which typically consist of the largest industrial corporations. The BTSII prepares accurate and complete audit reports and makes audit appointments to interact with tax managers, directors, partners of accounting firms, attorneys and corporate officers of the largest and most complex corporations in the world. The BTS II is responsible the overall management of their audits and providing technical guidance and leadership to audit teams conducting the most difficult and complex audits which oftentimes involve emerging industries and/or controversial or precedent setting issues. The BTS II will conduct special projects, tasks and other job-related functions as necessary, which may include assisting the district reviewer. This position may be required to rotate into the BTS II audit review position. Position requires up to 25% travel. The position requires the incumbent to be fingerprinted.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, and Access;
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills;
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assignments to meet deadlines;
  • Detail oriented, while remaining efficient; and
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment;

This position is designated as 'mobile worker' per Board of Equalization Telework Policy and Guidelines.

Candidate must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Meeting the training requirements for this position may require overnight travel for up to five consecutive nights.

  2. Describe your experience in reviewing and editing staff’s work and what steps you took with staff disagreed with your recommended changes.
  3. A narrative explanation of how your education, training, experience, and skills meet the minimum and desirable qualifications for the position.

Responses to all questions must be typed, with a maximum of two pages single-spaced. Completed Standard State Application (Form 678) received without responses to the SQ will not be considered.
