Job Description:
The Secretary of State’s Office is recruiting to fill a permanent, full-time, Management Services Technician position in the Management Services Division, Safe at Home program. Safe at Home is a confidential mail forwarding service provided to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and reproductive healthcare employees, patients, or volunteers. This position is located in downtown Sacramento near Light Rail, and there are several restaurants within walking distance from the office.

Duties: The Management Services Technician provides technical support services to staff in the Safe at Home program. Duties include but are not limited to: assist with the evaluation and approval of all incoming enrollment applications and confidential name change requests; enter relevant information from incoming enrollment packets and confidential name change requests onto an Excel spreadsheet, review all documents submitted by program applicants and participants for accuracy and completeness; independently write and sign various correspondence to rejected applicants and participants instructing them on how to complete and return necessary documents to the program. Prepare necessary participant packets and ID cards. Respond either verbally or in writing to semi-complex issues regarding the Safe at Home program. Fully responsible for processing incoming renewals and contacting in writing participants who turn 18 years old that they must renew as an adult to remain in the program. Assist with the mailing, packaging, and forwarding of the participant’s mail in the absence of the Program Technician II, the Mail Machine Operator II, or when deemed necessary by the Staff Services Manager I to handle a high level of incoming mail. Assist in the preparation of various training and outreach events including manning the booth at community events. Serve as back-up to the Program Technician II which includes but not limited to screen and route incoming telephone calls, process Change of Address forms, order office supplies, and provide basic office support to the Staff Services Manager I. Some statewide travel may be necessary to complete these tasks.

Desirable Qualifications: Applicants applying for this position should have good written and verbal communication skills, good organizational skills, be attentive to detail, be able to interact tactfully with the public and coworkers either in person or by telephone, be able to apply specific government statues, regulations, and office procedures; be able to analyze information accurately and take effective action, have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point; be able to maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.

Who Can Apply: Employees who are currently in the Management Services Technician classification or have current list, transfer or reinstatement eligibility for a permanent, full-time appointment to this classification.
