Job Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION :
The Systems Software Specialist will be a member of the Z/OS unit. The unit is responsible for the support of operating system products running on the mainframe. Typical job duties will include: implement, customize, and maintain software products; resolve complex technical problems relating to software products; act as technical consultant to users, application staff, and management; act as technical consultant on projects; works collaboratively and cooperatively with all customers; models and creates an organizational performance; develops, gathers, document, and report metrics on performance.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Mainframe experience.
  • Interacts well with others and maintains a positive cooperative attitude.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex computer software/hardware problems.
  • Expert knowledge and experience in computer programming techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and produce results.
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff in both verbal and written form.
  • Technical knowledge of computer operating systems.
  • Experience working in multiple systems environment.
  • Product installation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of z/OS, JES2 and I/O processing.
  • Working knowledge of TSO/ISPF, CLIST, REXX, programming languages.

WHO MAY APPLY :
Current state employees with status in the above classification or lateral transfers from an equivalent class, former state employees who can reinstate into this class or persons who are reachable on a current employment list for this classification. A training and development assignment (T & D) may also be considered. All appointments are subject to SROA/Surplus hiring provisions.
