The reporting location for this position is the Ranger Station located in Oceano or as otherwise directed. This position will work under the direction of the Chief Ranger or designee. This position oversees the District aquatics programs consisting of a young and developing Seasonal Lifeguard program and Junior Lifeguard program, and aquatic safety, education and outreach programs. The incumbent will share supervision of thirteen full-time State Park Peace Officers including Lifeguard, K-9 and Ranger positions as well as permanent intermittent and seasonal employees assigned to the Visitor Services function. The position will interface and possibly be assigned as designated lead for concessionaires, volunteers, park associations, and park visitors, including media and PIO positions. Effective communication both verbally and in writing of State park rules, regulations, and procedures is essential in this position. Knowledge of personnel management, business and public administration, employee evaluation and development, and Equal Employment Opportunity objectives and policies are necessary. The incumbent will demonstrate knowledge of principles and practices in managing natural and cultural resources, aquatic safety, public safety, planning, budgeting, scheduling, and bargaining contracts through the course of their duties.
