Under the general supervision of a Business Taxes Administrator I, the Tax Compliance Specialist independently performs the more complex and difficult tax compliance and collection work, registration, revocation, and criminal investigations on those cases where the potential for tax loss is greatest, is responsible for analyzing consumer use tax and closed out corporate collection accounts to determine if the corporate officers or responsible parties can be held liable and effects collections or recommends for discharge those accounts that are uncollectable. The incumbent, while working autonomously, informs the supervisor of complex and/or sensitive issues on assigned cases and acts as the lead person in cases leading to criminal prosecution on fraudulent and illegal operations. The incumbent acts as an expert resource to journey level staff, with responsibility under the various sales and use tax programs, and provides administrative support to management and supervision. The incumbent also provides support to the outreach program and conducts seminars, recruitment, presentations and informational sessions to the public both on and off site. Travel is required up to 20% of the time, including overnight and out-of-state travel. The position requires the incumbent to be fingerprinted.
Meeting the training requirements for this position will require overnight travel for up to five consecutive nights.
