Under general supervision of the Business Taxes Administrator I, the Tax Technician II is responsible for the more complex, technical duties. This includes, but is not limited to, issuing permits to new businesses by mail and in person; handling the full range of account maintenance duties, working delinquencies; conducting taxpayer interviews which may involve complicated situations and utilize basic explorative questioning, issuing use tax exemption certificates, and rotational reception duties. Perform other job related duties as necessary. Under close supervision, the Tax Technician I learns and performs the less difficult and complex technical duties and is responsible for basic collection and technical support functions. This includes, but is not limited to, applying laws, rules and policies relating to the Board of Equalization’s programs; performing account maintenance duties, including the filing and pulling of taxpayer records and account files; accessing taxpayer information via a video terminal and/or modifying account information as necessary; processing incoming and outgoing mail which may include money payments and handles sensitive and confidential mail and/or material. Perform other job related duties as necessary. The incumbent will receive an additional $100 dollar per month pay differential. Meeting the training requirements for these positions may require overnight travel for one or more consecutive days. More than one position may be available. The position requires the incumbent to be fingerprinted. All applicants will be considered however, SROA/Surplus will be given priority.
