Job Description:

DUTIES

Under the direction of the Focused Monitoring and Technical Assistance I (FMTA I) Unit Administrator and the Director of the Special Education Division, and working cooperatively with program units and supervisors throughout the Department, the FMTA consultant works independently in the following areas of responsibility to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations: verification reviews; special education self-reviews; complaint investigations; local plans/annual service and budget plans; special projects; and the delivery of technical assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs), Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPAs), and parents. FMTA unit responsibilities are regionalized among five geographical areas of the state. Travel is required.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and writing skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of education program monitoring
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations
  • Experience working with local educational agencies, school districts, and parents
  • Good computer skills
  • Willing to travel
