The Southern School Nutrition Programs Unit (SSNPU) is searching for a new colleague to join our close-knit, hardworking, team. If you have strong writing skills, have the ability to understand and interpret complex regulations, and enjoy working with a large, diverse field of local agencies, we invite you to apply.

The SSNPU serves schools and other agencies and institutions that participate in the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, and other U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) food programs to ensure that California’s students receive good nutrition. We are part of the Nutrition Services Division, which also serves infants and seniors, distributes USDA Foods, and provides research and leadership in nutrition education.

DUTIES

  • Lead over Direct Certification Project
  • Assist with the application and caseload management for new food program sponsors
  • Provide technical assistance to program sponsors with questions or problems
  • Present training sessions
  • Research and recommend solutions to policy issues
  • Draft budget change proposals, legislative analyses, and proposed bill language
  • Assist in organizing, updating, and revising guidance materials and forms
  • Attend and present at conferences, interdepartmental meetings, and association meetings
  • Some travel required

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Positive interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a wide range of people
  • Ability to handle time sensitive issues and conflicting deadlines
  • Extensive knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
