The Air Resources Board (ARB), referred to as 'The Board', is a dynamic and innovative leader in setting and implementing controls to protect and improve air quality for the citizens of California. The Board's scientific and technical programs rely extensively on web-based information systems.
The mission of the Office of Information Services (OIS) is to leverage the most effective information technologies available to achieve ARB's program goals.
The IT Operations and Support Branch (ITOSB) is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and enhancements of ARB's office automation computer systems and supporting infrastructure. ARB's network, workstation support, service desk and enterprise systems support more than 1,525 users in Sacramento, El Monte, and other remote sites. ITOSB provides desktop computers and printers, email/calendaring support, IT purchasing support, training, service desk support, and resource center support to all ARB staff. ITOSB also supports all ARB voice, video and data communications services, and manages ARB's network wiring infrastructure. In addition to these roles, ITOSB works closely with the OIS Systems Development Branch, Information Security Officer (ISO), and Chief Information Officer (CIO) to successfully and securely deliver mission-critical business applications and support services to ARB programs and external stakeholders.
The primary duties and responsibilities of this position includes Level 1 and Level 2 IT Service Desk support to ARB end users located in the Sacramento area. Tasks include interpreting, understanding, and responding to user inquiries and problems, troubleshooting, documenting and diagraming solutions, teaming with other IT co-workers, and acting as a liaison between end users and OIS technical staff.
Highly desirable qualifications include: 1) a solid understanding of computer hardware components, drives, boards, memory, motherboard, etc., and software up to and including the operating system; 2) excellence in customer service; 3) a fundamental understanding of how computing systems operate internally; 4) an ongoing desire to learn; 5) a positive and professional attitude; and 6) the ability to manage your time effectively. Desirable qualifications include: 1) organization skills; 2) writing and documentation skills; and 3) a basic understanding of network and data communications including interoperability of different computer systems.
