Under general supervision of the Data Processing Manager III (DPM III), the Systems Software Specialist II (Technical) (SSS II) will act as the technical team member of the Server Administration Team. The SSS II will be responsible for the more complex project, infrastructure initiatives for CCHCS. These functions include, but are not limited to, working as a team member on project requirements analysis, architectural development, general design, development, testing and implementing, and maintaining the daily operational readiness of the existing server infrastructure. The incumbent is expected to maintain regular, consistent, and predictable attendance.
40% - Acts as a team member for the Server Administration team in the planning, analysis, design, development and maintenance of the more complex software systems that are essential to the mission of the overall organization and/or affect a large number of CCHCS business areas. As a team member, participates in the Post Implementation Evaluation and Review (PIER) process. Proposes and/or modifies service level agreements. Determines the impact of systems upgrades and coordinates data processing services in support of CCHCS Enterprise Server environment. Responsible for setting configuration standards and conventions for Data Backups\Restores and Disaster Recovery. Acts as a technical advisor and consultant to customers, Information Technology (IT) staff, vendors and contractors. Provides expert guidance on information systems planning, and provides technical guidance and direction to operations staff and management. Coordinates and ensures effective operations of complex multi-tier environments and performs configuration management changes.
30% - As a team member, manages the high level - technical aspects of the more complex software infrastructure projects and ensures critical functions are addressed and completed. Coordinates with technical and user project managers to review development and maintenance components of software systems. Manages the complexities and implementation of Enterprise Server Infrastructure, which encompasses operating systems and utilities. Ensures all procedures are in compliance with the State Administrative Manual and the Department Operations Manual. Provides guidance for technical staff. Coordinates with other team members to schedule work.
15% - Reviews, approves, develops new and implements existing IT policies, standards and procedures. Documents server and backup configurations. Acts as an expert technical resource in collecting, monitoring and reporting costs, schedules and benefits for department data services projects. Develops and delivers presentations to IT staff and management, as needed. Reviews and approves hardware/software installation procedures, migration/conversion procedures, backup/recovery plans and procedures, and disaster recovery plans and procedures. Maintains version control of operating systems and special purpose vendor supplied application software and licenses. Provides third level support to IT field staff on the more complex issues.
10% - Develops and maintains technical documentation on systems software used in the Enterprise Servers environment. Acts as a coordinator during troubleshooting incidents. Assists with infrastructure services. Provides expertise and assistance for production incidents on a 24-hour availability basis. Identifies and resolves network, directory services, and configurations issues. Prepares and reviews disruption reports and correction plans.
5% - Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Information technology systems (software) programming, equipment, and its capabilities and interfaces between hardware and software; and the requirements for the installation and implementation of the most complex information technology software systems.

Backup Administrator responsibilities
• General administration and monitoring for the Data Center Symantec Net-Backup 7.5 environment, Hardware and Software
• Maintenance/updates of Net-Backup existing policies, Storage Units, Storage Lifecycle Policies and client
• Perform client restores as necessary to support Application/Infrastructure needs
• Support of Symantec to address any hardware/software configuration, updates, enhancements and/or failures as needed
• Develop /Maintain/Implement Maintenance and Operations process and procedures applicable within the Net-Backup environment
• Conduct device performance analysis to ensure system performance is maintained/increased as necessary
• Work with Office of Information Technologies (Otech) to address any hardware device IP/Fiber cabling and/or SAN zoning installation, updates and/or failures as needed
• Work with state, and vendor resources as necessary to define/implement new or update of existing storage requirements and maintain/Update Business Requirements Deliverables

SPECIAL PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Persons appointed to this position must be reasonably expected to exert up to 40lbs of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Persons appointed to this position must be able to travel to assigned institutions.
Incumbent must possess a valid California driver's license to travel to remote business sites and institutions to provide management, technical and customer service support. Incumbent may be required to work outside normal business hours.
