The California Department of Social Services, Legal Division, is recruiting to fill up to four permanent full-time Senior Legal Typist vacancies in its Sacramento Headquarters Office. The Senior Legal Typist provides clerical support to four or more attorneys & paralegals. Duties include typing, proofreading & serving a variety of legal pleadings & documents.
The Senior Legal Typist also prepares correspondence, policy memos, processes and tracks executive level control correspondence, schedules hearings, sets up & maintains files, answers telephones, and performs photocopying and faxing duties. The Senior Legal Typist works independently, as well as in a team environment with other Senior Legal Typists, under the general supervision of a Legal Support Supervisor I.
WHO MAY APPLY: Applications (STD. 678) will be accepted from candidates with current list eligibility on a Senior Legal Typist examination list; state lateral transfer employees currently in an equivalent classification whose salary is substantially the same as the Senior Legal Typist classification (e.g. Office Technician, Office Services Supervisor I and equivalent levels); and from candidates with permissive reinstatement eligibility. Training and Development (T&D) assignments from eligible candidates may be considered (e.g. Office Assistant, Word Processing Technician and equivalent levels). A current typing certificate (issued within the past four years) verifying typing speed of minimum 45 wpm is required to be appointed to the Senior Legal Typist position. Selected candidates will be subject to a criminal record background check clearance by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
