This is a Limited Term Intermittent position with the potential to become Permanent Intermittent. This position may work a maximum of 1500 hours per calendar year.
The Visible Emissions Evaluation (VEE) Team travels throughout California, on a six month cycle, conducting VEE certifications and its prerequisite course, Fundamentals of Enforcement. The VEE Team also maintains and QCs two smoke generation trailers and their associated equipment and instrumentation. VEE staff also coordinates locations, materials, and personnel for all of its class and certification locations. Under close supervision of an Air Resources Supervisor I and the VEE team lead, the incumbent will assist in conducting day & night recertification sessions statewide and maintain and operate the smoke generators. The incumbent will also assist in the preparation of the smoke generator prior to a certification field trip and proctor field sessions for recertification programs, schedule testing sites, grade test results, process certification, post class announcements on-line. This position will include overnight travel up to 50% and driving a state vehicle with a trailer to and from field sites. The incumbent may require annual physical.
As a condition of employment the incumbent must possess a valid California driver’s license and maintain a good driving record (please indicate on STD 678). The successful candidate will be required to take and pass a physical exam and be able to lift up to 35 lbs. Travel up to 50% will be required.
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team; excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience dealing with the public; and knowledge of Microsoft office. Some knowledge of mechanics and electronics will be a plus.
