Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel, Appeals Division, and the Tax Counsel III (Supervisor), a Tax Counsel/Tax Counsel III (Specialist) in the Franchise and Income Tax section of the Appeals Division evaluates the issues of law and fact for appeals arising from the Franchise Tax Board and prepares proposed decisions, hearing summaries, and memoranda, and generally advises Board Member offices and their staff regarding franchise and income tax appeals on substantive and procedural matters. The Tax Counsel III (Specialist) may handle the more complex and difficult case workload.
