Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager I, this position is responsible for providing technical support to attorneys who are litigating a variety of legal disputes for the Department in state and federal court, and before administrative agencies. This position requires good judgment, knowledge of jurisdictional court rules, and the ability to act independently.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following (other duties may be assigned):

Incumbent will prepare and process pleadings, briefs, trial briefs, and other litigation documents, correspondence and memoranda through dictation and handwritten documentation from staff counsel. This includes researching legal citations to ensure accuracy, properly formatting legal documents, and preparing exhibits. The processing of these documents includes faxing, copying and mailing.

Incumbent will be responsible for setting up and maintaining case files and follow-up records, developing and maintaining a calendaring system and file management system, and updating ProLaw and Case Management System databases. This includes ensuring that attorneys are advised of upcoming hearing or court dates and supplied with the proper legal documents necessary for the appearance.

Incumbent's duties will also include phone calls to other attorneys and their support staff to calendar hearings and meetings, arrange for service of process, and review and discuss local rules with court clerks to ensure proper filings and that required deadlines are met.

Additional duties include answering, screening and referring incoming telephone calls, scheduling meetings, making room arrangements and notifying participants, and other duties as required, including providing back-up coverage to the Reception Desk as necessary.

The core work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
