The reporting location for this position is at Headquarters in Sacramento. This position will work under the direction of the Staff Services Manager I. The Office Technician (Typing) provides a high level of typing and clerical support performing time sensitive duties including functioning as initial contact with all visitors of the Personnel Office, greets and assists all external and internal customers at the Personnel Office main public counter. Receives, screens and refers telephone calls from outside sections, agencies and the public to appropriate Personnel Services and Labor Relations staff; accepts, sorts, date stamps and distributes sensitive mail to Section; packages outgoing mail; provides general clerical support such as typing, filing, photo copying, collating and creating folder filing systems; schedules meetings on Microsoft Outlook including interviews and conference rooms. Formats and types various types of personnel-related correspondence using Microsoft Word, formats and finalizes personnel policies and procedures, assignment roster listings, employee directories, Departmental contact listings, etc., using Microsoft Excel and Word. Responsible for updating all personnel tracking logs (i.e. accounts receivables, State Controller's Office (SCO) error notices, etc.) and organize and file associated paperwork. Maintains filing for the Transactions Unit; including past year timesheets, Official Personnel Folders, miscellaneous payroll, benefit and employment history documents; including documents located at the warehouse. This position acts as Personnel Services Section timekeeper and lead person for Transactions Office Record Retention.
Desirable Qualifications: It is highly desirable for candidates to be highly motivated, independent and customer service oriented; to take initiative, possess time management and detail-oriented skills and communicate effectively both orally and in writing; demonstrate good judgment when interacting with the public and professional staff; ability to work under pressure and perform multiple tasks with accuracy, precision and neatness; excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel. Must work effectively with all levels of staff and have excellent attendance and be able to work Monday-Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
