Under general direction with little day-to-day supervision of the Business Taxes Compliance Supervisor (BTCS II), the Tax Technician (TT) III uses highly independent initiative and judgment in serving as an expert staff resource responsible for the most difficult and complex technical work, and therefore must understand the complexity of all systems, rules and procedures involved in tax return processing for various tax programs. The TT III acts in a lead capacity for the Special Taxes & Fees Division, Cigarette Tax Stamp Group, which is responsible for the sale and distribution of cigarette tax stamps sold to licensed distributors. The TTIII will be responsible for maintaining the stamp distribution system, including the sale, printing and shipping of stamps, collecting the tax, monitoring payments and providing the accounting data of the stamps for audit purposes. Other responsibilities include being responsible for the receiving, reviewing and coordinating of stamp requests for all cigarette distributors and assisting in the ongoing implementation process and maintaining a log of stamps ordered. The TT III will also be responsible for reviewing account files, correspondence, tax returns and related documents and determines the appropriate actions to be taken. Applies laws, rules and regulations as necessary when preparing billings with penalty and interest, and refunding or adjusting accounts. Must attain a detailed knowledge of several data processing systems including the Automated Compliance Management System (ACMS) and the Integrated Revenue Information System (IRIS). The incumbent will receive additional compensation each month for public contact through the telephone per Pay Differential #186. The position is located in a high-rise building. The incumbent will receive an additional $100.00 per month pay differential. All applicants will be considered however, SROA/Surplus will be given priority.
