Job Description: Position located in Santa Clarita under the Statewide Compliance and Outreach Program (SCOP). Under the general supervision of a Business Taxes Administrator I, the Business Taxes Compliance Specialist (BTCS) conducts the more complex business permit and license inspections and corroboration of accurate tax reporting under the Statewide Compliance and Outreach Program (SCOP). The BTCS also prepares investigation reports, conducts field observations, and assists in identifying underreporting. When reporting deficiencies are encountered, the BTCS solicits amended tax returns, prepares estimated billings, and prepares audit leads. The BTCS must be able to accept money in the field, provide a receipt, and properly protect the money until it is transferred. The duties performed by this position are primarily carried out in the field. This position may be considered for rotational duties within the same classification. Under close supervision of the Business Taxes Administrator (BTA) I, the Business Taxes Representative (BTR) is assigned cases by terminal digit and/or other means on active, closed, and revoked sales and use tax accounts up to but not limited to $50,000. (In general, accounts over that amount are assigned to the specialist.) The BTR must keep the supervisor informed of complex issues on assigned cases. The accounts are worked from the office by telephone and/or mail using an inside collection program. When necessary and warranted, field calls will be made to the business location and/or other locations. Work is performed by use of a personal computer in accessing the individual’s caseload. Actions taken are initiated and recorded on the personal computer, as are the case notes. Performs other job related duties as required. Positions require travel up to 50% (may include overnight) of the time and work in the field at least 80% of the time. Incumbent must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Meeting the training requirements for these positions may require overnight travel for up to five consecutive nights. More than one position may be available.
