Under the close supervision of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), the Accountant Trainee, in a training and learning capacity, performs professional accounting work in establishing, researching, analyzing, monitoring and maintaining accounts and financial records for the Revolving Fund. The incumbent audits expense claims via the CalATERS Global system for accuracy and compliance with State Administrative Manual (SAM), California Department of Human Resources (CalHR), and Travel Guide rules and regulations. Contacts claimants for questionable items and further information. Researches discrepancies and takes necessary action. Processes the daily and monthly payroll distribution for Board employees. Works closely with Human Resources Division staff to resolve sensitive problems and verifies payroll distribution documents are processed correctly and expeditiously. Prepares collection letters to employees in compliance with SAM. Makes recommendations and advises management on specific payroll distribution issues. Prepares monthly reports for management and reconciles the subsidiary account. Records and reconciles daily disbursement information to the automated accounting system for advances and vendor payment to the Revolving Fund subsidiary accounts. Researches discrepancies and prepares the appropriate adjustments. Assists monthly in the balancing of the subsidiary accounts receivable ledgers to the outstanding documents. Performs other accounting related duties. Knowledge of computer software programs, good communication, interpersonal, analytical, and customer service skills required. The position is located in a high-rise building. The position requires the incumbent to be fingerprinted. All applicants will be considered however, SROA/Surplus will be given priority.
Educational requirements: Equivalent to graduation from college, with specialization in accounting or completion of the equivalent of 19 semester hours of course work including elementary and advanced accounting, auditing, cost accounting, and business law. Applicants must submit a complete Standard State Application (STD 678) and include college transcripts. A copy of a diploma will not be accepted.
