The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is searching for a self-motivated team player. This individual will perform a variety of tasks in support of the Disability Management Unit (DME). The incumbent is responsible for independently completing personnel transactions related to Industrial Disability Leave (IDL) Non-Industrial Disability Insurance (NDI), State Disability Insurance (SDI), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Catastrophic Time Bank (CAT) for CDPH employees. This includes updating leave balances via the Human Resources Information System (HRIS); processing benefits transactions, and preparing garnishments, “off-pay” letters, direct pay and or Cobra for benefits,, researches critical personnel problems and recommends alternative solutions and reviews various control agency letters, memos and bargaining contract provisions. The incumbent will work closely with the Senior Personnel Specialist and function as a team member on personnel-related projects.
CDPH, Human Resources Branch has a Personnel Specialist position in the Disability Management Unit, located in one of the East End complex buildings in downtown Sacramento. Across the street to the West is the Capitol Park rose garden, and across the street to the North are many great restaurants. CDPH offers employee fitness programs such as yoga, and step aerobics classes during lunch time.
The ideal candidate will need to be a creative employee and self-starter with excellent customer service skills, knowledge of various Disability laws and benefits, Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook as well as web based applications, and proficient computer skills. Ability to handle multiple assignments and critical deadlines, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, work cooperatively with others. The desired candidate should have good work habits, excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability, and be a team player. Be willing to adjust work schedule as needed to attend mandated training classes pertaining to the Disability Management Unit arena and willing to work core hours Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
