DUTIES:

The Chairman's Office of the Ombudsman has multiple Permanent Intermittent positions. These positions may work for a maximum of 1500 hours per calendar year each.

The Office of the Ombudsman in Chairman's Office has an Air Resources Technician II position open. The successful candidate may support a wide range of projects to assist in the implementation of the Air Resources Board's (ARB) business assistance; public communication and stakeholder engagement,and international visitor programs. The successful candidate will be expected to assist professional staff with researching, analyzing, and reporting on ARB's technical programs to ensure that they are understandable to regulated businesses and the public. The successful candidates will assist staff in tracking and reporting data, entering it into appropriate databases such as Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets, and creating reports and presentations using programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint.

Under close supervision of the Ombudsman or lead staff, the successful candidate will provide assistance and referrals on air quality rules and regulations by answering phone calls; responding to stakeholder questions and complaints; and assisting businesses in complying with ARB rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. The successful candidate will input call information into the Ombudsman Database Tracking System and follow up on any unresolved issues with ARB staff.

Duties also include supporting the International Visitor and Air Quality Education Programs by assisting in developing materials;organizing and tracking meetings, participating in various projects meetings, workshops, and events; assisting in preparing air quality demonstrations; supporting the training and outreach to California's K-16 population and the general public; and assisting in the preparation of air pollution and climate change lessons and presentations to students, teachers, and administrators. The successful candidate will also support small business activities includilng business outreach; researching and writing case studies and business success stories for the website and print; support to the CoolCalifornia small business awards program; and development of collateral and webpages. The successful candidate will be required to create charts, graphs, and other visual communication tools.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will demonstrate a professional demeanor, experience with Windows operating systems and other computer programs, including, but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Professional; experience preforming web-based research, excellent communication (both written and verbal( and interpersonal skills, and a track record of increasing responsibility and initiative. The successful candidate should have an interest in providing excellent customer service; possess strong organizational skills; have the ability to work independently and as a team member; and be a self-starter. Knowledge of ARB and local air pollution control district air quality programs and regulations is a plus, as is bi-lingual ability and international cultural or business exchange experience. Education and work experience in a scientific, engineering, business, environment, or related field is desired

EL MONTE LOCATION - We are located in the beautiful sunny southern California close to restaurants, shopping centers, tour sites (i.e.: Disneyland, Beaches, Hollywood), and many more. We have FREE PARKING -What a deal! But if you need to use public transportation it is close by via Metro link (rail) or bus. We are located nearby to several freeways (10, 60, 605, and 710).

SACRAMENTO LOCATION - We are located downtown in the beautiful California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) at 10th and I Street. The Light Rail Station is two blocks from the Cal/EPA building and is also close to the downtown plaza, restaurants, and gym.
