Title:  MOTOR CARRIER SPECIALIST II, CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL
Salary: $4,625.00 - $5,744.00

Job Description:

Duties:  Under the direction of the Commercial Vehicle Section Special Projects/Licensing Supervisor, the Motor Carrier Specialist (MCS) II independently administers, reviews, coordinates, and completes the processing of documents related to the Motor Carrier Operating Authority and Motor Carrier Permits; recommendations to the Public Utilities Commission, Department of Motor Vehicles, and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration; and work related to the Inspection and Maintenance Station (IMS) and School Bus Contractor (SBC) licensing programs.  The MCS II provides functional oversight of enforcement activities related to the issuance of licenses for the operation of IMS and private SBC activities.  Responsibilities include the development and administration of statutes, regulations, departmental manuals, guides, handbooks, and forms pertaining to the Motor Carrier Safety Program.  In addition, the MCS II provides support and assistance regarding training relative to the Motor Carrier Safety Program and the Commercial Industry Education Program, and performs other administrative duties as required.

Desirable qualifications:  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision, excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding written, verbal, and analytical skills, above average knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, and departmental teaching ability/experience related to commercial enforcement.
