Job Description:
Position: The Secretary of State’s Business Programs Division is seeking one Limited Term, full-time Supervising Program Technician III. If you enjoy a fast paced and changing environment, this job may be for you. The position is located in downtown Sacramento, near Light Rail, K Street Mall, and other amenities.

Duties: Under the general supervision of the Section Manager, incumbents are responsible for planning, organizing and directing the work of multiple medium sized units comprised of Program Technicians, Program Technicians II, Office Assistants, and temporary help through subordinate supervisors. Incumbents must handle complaints, the most complex problems and the most sensitive situations; interact professionally with the public, via the telephone, mail, email and in person regarding filing documents and/or information requests, difficult questions or general inquiries; and must interact effectively and diplomatically with other governmental agencies, non-governmental groups, the legislature, professionals including attorneys and accountants, Secretary of State (SOS) staff and the general public.

Desirable Qualifications: This is a full supervisory position. The ability to learn the technical aspects of the program is needed to direct the work of the staff and work along with the staff on the completion of daily assignments, and to facilitate the efficient review, processing of documents, and resolution of challenges to filing requirements. The supervisor must have operational knowledge of program office equipment and computer systems. The supervisor must be punctual, have good attendance, be able to work both independently and in a team environment; maintain accurate records, plan, prioritize and schedule work effectively; have the willingness to learn new duties, the ability to meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with the public as well as all levels of staff, including management. Experience with Microsoft Office software is desired. Candidates must be able to accept and effectively implement changes in policies and procedures. The supervisor must be able to take initiative, utilize tact, and be confidential with program and personnel information.

Who Can Apply: In accordance with Government Code Sections 19080-19083 this position is established for 12 months and may be extended to 24 months. Employees who are currently in the Supervising Program Technician III classification or have current list, transfer or reinstatement eligibility for a permanent, full-time appointment to this classification.
