Under the direct supervision of a Supervising Tax Auditor III, the Supervising Tax Auditor II is responsible for the supervision of a crew of auditors performing field audits. These audits are made to determine tax liability of all types of business firms and governmental agencies subject to the provisions of the tax laws administered by the Board of Equalization. He/she acts as a supervisor for all grades of auditors conducting a wide variety of field audits.
The Supervising Tax Auditor II works independently, plans and schedules audit assignments and field investigations; controls audit group assignments; researches technical and administrative problems for auditors; reviews and discusses audit problems with individual auditors and taxpayers; discusses audits with taxpayer representatives both during and subsequent to completion of audits; approves auditor correspondence; and performs preliminary review of audit reports.
Completion of these materials frequently required using sophisticated equipment including a Headquarters mainframe computer with video terminals throughout the state, various auxiliary software packages, and various other computer equipment and office machines. The Supervising Tax Auditor II is responsible for performing the required work in the most efficient and effective manner. He/she is a skilled expert charted with providing the supervisorial support to the Department’s audit program. Meeting the training requirements for this job may require overnight travel for one or more days. Travel required 25% of the time. The position requires the incumbent to be fingerprinted. Out of State Offices: The incumbent will receive $419.00 per month pay differential. All applicants will be considered however, SROA/surplus will be given priority.
