Under general direction of the, Supervising Tax Auditor I/II, the Associate Tax Auditor conducts the more difficult and complex field audits. Generally, these accounts consist of the larger retailers, service-based businesses, construction contractors, manufacturers, wholesalers and other business enterprises reporting a substantial amount of tax liability and where reporting errors would probably involve significant additional taxes. Make preliminary preparations such as reviewing the prior audit and the taxpayer’s file; makes the audit appointment; reviews the laws, regulations and rulings pertinent to the assignment; examines the books and records; Explains the audit findings to the taxpayer and their representatives; provides copies of the audit working papers; explains the application of the law and the audit procedures used; and prepares a report of discussion when appropriate; develops the audit program and determines the appropriate audit procedures to be performed and the scope of testing. Ability to travel may include overnight. Meeting the training requirement for this position may require overnight travel for up to five consecutive nights. All applicants will be considered however, SROA/Surplus will be given priority. More than one position is available.
