Under the general direction of a Business Taxes Compliance Supervisor, the Tax Technician III performs a variety of complex technical duties relative to the Sales & Use Tax Program return processing, billing, adjusting and delinquency maintenance functions of the unit with an emphasis in Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), electronic filed (e-file) returns, and unapplied payment resolution. The technician conducts the various return/payment maintenance and EFT registration activities described below.
The Tax Technician III works independently with little day to day supervision, assisting taxpayers on the EFT helpline, maintaining erroneous EFT payments, processing EFT registration, and researching/resolving aged unapplied payments. Additionally, the Tax Technician III serves as an expert staff resource responsible for the more sensitive and complex work. The Tax Technician III applies in-depth knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and procedures to the return processing, billing, adjusting and delinquency maintenance workload of the unit.
Incumbent must attain a detailed knowledge of the IRIS system to handle difficult return processing, billing adjusting and delinquency maintenance assignments. It is extremely important that the Tax Technician III understands the complexity of IRIS, policies and procedures involved in tax return processing, as the position has a high consequence of error and in most instances is the last level of review. Candidate must be able to perform the essential job functions (*) with or without reasonable accommodations. The incumbent will receive an additional $100.00 per month pay differential. The position is located in a high-rise building. All applicants will be considered however, SROA/Surplus will be given priority.
