Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the Chief of Plant Operations II, the incumbent performs a variety of semiskilled manual tasks in the alteration, maintenance, and repair of buildings and building facilities. Typical tasks include, clean, maintain, and repair building fixtures and equipment, including locks, windows, doors, screens, venetian blinds, gutters, drains, shelving, and kitchen utensils; replaces light bulbs and fuses; makes simple furniture, cabinet, asphalt tile, and linoleum repairs; assists in lubricating, regulating, and repairing sewage, water, cooling and heating system lines and equipment; assists in repairing roofs; assists in repairing plaster and concrete; assists in painting buildings and equipment; occasionally operates automotive equipment and hauls material; requisitions supplies; makes reports on work done.

Perform routine corrective and scheduled preventive maintenance on installed equipment and structures.

Prepare reports; order supplies and repair parts; assist in other areas; attend in-service training, on-the-job and other related training.

Perform routine day-to-day housekeeping tasks required to maintain a safe and clean work area.

Promote and enforce safety rules and regulations, including tool control. Ensure all federal, state and institution; rules, policies and regulations regarding sexual harassment are adhered to. Maintain safety consciousness and awareness with special attention to factors such as:

1. Phone numbers to dial in emergency situations. 2. Alternate measures of summoning aid when phone is not available. 3. Location of the nearest fire extinguisher at locations where you spend most of your day. 4. The need to correct or report any safety hazards that you observe. Use common sense in resolving safety problems.
