Job Description:
Under close supervision of the Accounting Administrator II, the Accountant Trainee, in a training and learning capacity, performs professional accounting work in the establishment and maintenance of accounts and financial records for the Revenue Section. Considerable contacts are made with Board offices, Cashier Section, State Controller’s Office and various State departments. The incumbent assists in processing refund claims, offsets, and preparing transmittals. Downloads reports from the Integrated Revenue Information System (IRIS) for distribution to the Board's Research and Statistics unit and to the Department of Finance. Performs technical accounting work in compiling registers, journals, subsidiary ledgers and worksheets for various funds. Prepares monthly bank reconciliations. Assists the Accounting Officer - Specialist in developing processes and procedures to perform reconciliation processes more efficiently and to reduce reporting errors. Advises revenue unit staff and supervisor of problem areas. Reconciles and maintains the general ledger for various funds. Analyzes individual accounts to determine proper action needed. Prepares correspondence to the State Controller’s Office concerning any discrepancies to the Controller’s account balances. Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Performs special projects related to the Revenue Section. Gathers and analyzes accounting data when unique problems arise. Performs other accounting related duties as required. Knowledge of computer software programs, good communication, interpersonal, analytical, and customer service skills required. The position is located in a high-rise building. The position requires the incumbent to be fingerprinted. All applicants will be considered however, SROA/Surplus will be given priority.

Educational requirements: Equivalent to graduation from college, with specialization in accounting or completion of the equivalent of 19 semester hours of course work including elementary and advanced accounting, auditing, cost accounting, and business law. Applicants must submit a complete Standard State Application (STD 678) and include college transcripts.
