Under general direction and with very little day-to-day supervision, the Tax Technician III serves as the expert staff resource and performs the most difficult and complex technical compliance duties. Contacts taxpayer and explains the nature of the delinquency. Through basic interview techniques, elicits reasons for taxpayers' failure to file, problems in making payment and obtain commitment to clear the delinquency. Establishes appropriate follow-ups and make further timely contact when appropriate. Reviews assignments and prepares request for additional security if warranted. Prepares write-offs on selected uncollectible accounts under specific dollar criteria. Refers collection cases to the Business Taxes Compliance Supervisor after designated period if collection efforts are unsuccessful or technical assistance is needed. Meeting the training requirements for this position may require overnight travel for up to five consecutive nights. The incumbent will receive an additional $100.00 per month pay differential. The position requires the incumbent to be fingerprinted. Will consider Training and Development Assignment (T&D) applicants for this vacancy.
