The reporting location for this position is Sacramento. This position will work under the direction of the Personnel Supervisor II. Under the general supervision of the Personnel Supervisor II, the Senior Personnel Specialist will provide training to new Personnel Specialists in all areas of the personnel and payroll related transactions as well as assist all Personnel Specialists in the more complex personnel and payroll related transactions and salary determination. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Train, review and evaluate work in areas of appointments,
separations, lump sum calculations, payroll related transactions, overtime (FLSA)
payments, benefit related documents including health, dental, vision and flex elect programs, and attendance/leave accounting processing. The Senior Personnel Specialist will research and resolve difficult transactions, interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, procedures and bargaining unit contracts; review documents before submission to control agencies, review error documents returned by State Controller's Office for correction, provide feedback on corrective actions, assist with documenting adverse actions, maintain and update the Personnel Transactions Manual; provide feedback and recommendations to the Personnel Supervisor II to improve transactions processes. The Senior Personnel Specialist will also assume responsibilities which will include housing, taxation, uniform payments, salary issues, military leave, catastrophic leave and disability benefits (Non-Industrial Disability Leave/State Disability Insurance/Temporary Disability Allowance). State housing is not available. This position is pending Executive Personnel Review Committee approval.
