Duties and Responsibilities:


Under the direction of the Health and Safety Officer, the Lead Security Guard of the Veterans Home of Chula Vista is responsible for the overall function of the Security Department; ensures the safety and security of the Home, the residents, staff, and members of the public. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

In a lead person capacity, works with a group of security guards assigned to guard and protect the Veterans Home of Chula Vista (VHC-CV), equipment and property, including the Fire Panel; plans the organization of shift assignments, post coverage, and assigns work schedules; acts as liaison between the security guard force and other law enforcement personnel; Investigates unusual conditions; trains security guard personnel, evaluates their performance, and takes or recommends appropriate action; enforces various regulations and writes reports.

Responds immediately to alarms and emergency calls requiring Security assistance. Assists with resident, visitor, guest and employee parking permits. Prevents the admittance to the premises of unauthorized persons by having all visitors sign visitor log; Conducts floor-to-floor security patrol and security clocking rounds. Performs predetermined locking and unlocking of doors. Turns off lights in unoccupied areas.

Receive, tag, log and secure all lost and found articles. Respond appropriately regarding safety and life-threatening situations. Inspect security conditions on stairways and rooftops. Raise and lower flags when appropriate.

Attends in service training as required. May assist Health and Safety Officer with special projects as required.
