Under the general direction of the IT Service Desk Section Manager as part of the Operations Management Bureau, the incumbent functions as the supervisor of the Configuration Management Unit (CMU) managing staff that monitors, manages, modifies and maintains FTB’s Configuration Management System (CMS) and is the department’s senior architect and developer for FTB’s CMS. The CMS is one of the departments most complex systems comprised of several subsystems, several customer views, and thousands of tables of FTB’s IT configuration items (CI) and their legal, financial and service data. The thousands of CI records represent and enable the management of all FTB’s information technology (IT) services, systems, and components such as computers and software used within FTB’s technical environment. The CMS provides the foundational support for the complex hardware and software support processes for the department as the ‘one source of truth’ in matters legal, financial, and service data regarding FTB’s IT services. All CIs are managed throughout their lifecycle from acquisition to retirement within the highly controlled CMS. Incidents, Requests, Problems, and Changes to the CIs are recorded, managed and referenced in the CMS. Complex reports and queries are regularly performed against the CMS data. The incumbent administers enterprise-wide IT plans, policies, procedures, standards, and architectures. These duties cover the broad areas of research and testing of emerging information technologies, and advising and recommending the potential for future direction for the department to management. All duties are performed within the framework of the department’s mission and values and in accordance with the Departments Policies and General Procedures.

  • Extensive knowledge of FTB’s Configuration Management System
  • Extensive knowledge of FTB’s IT infrastructure
  • Knowledge of ITIL and experience implementing IT Service Management
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Experience using an SDLC, with strong emphasis on release processes
  • Experience directing the work of technical staff

Current state employees with status in the above classification or lateral transfers from an equivalent class, former state employees who can reinstate into this class or persons who are reachable on a current employment list for this classification. A training and development assignment (T & D) may also be considered. All appointments are subject to SROA/Surplus hiring provisions.
