This position reports to the Deputy Director, Sales and Use Tax Department and serves as an Advisor to the Deputy Directory. The Business Taxes Compliance Specialist (BTCS) is responsible for independently interpreting sales and use tax law, rules and regulations and analyzing, evaluating and making recommendations related to all Sales and Use Tax program, compliance policies and procedures. The BTCS also provides oversight and coordination of the activities related to strategic planning and organizational effectiveness in the Department. The BTCS also independently coordinates and guides the development of strategic plans, objectives and performance metrics to evaluate program performance. The BTCS identifies, develops and makes recommendations to management, including the preparation of issue papers, policies, procedures, process improvements and cost comparisons. The BTCS performs back-up duties to the Technical Advisor (Business Taxes Specialist III) and performs final reviews of departmental policies and statutorily required reports on behalf of the Deputy Director. Coordinates and facilitates department-wide meetings with Department management, supervisors and staff, including making presentations and reports. The BTCS acts as a team leader on various projects for the Deputy Director. The BTCS must have the ability and willingness to work in a team environment and participate as an active team member.
