Under general direction of the Business Taxes Administrator II (BTA II), the BTA I independently, or through subordinate staff, plans, organizes, directs, and monitors and reviews the workload connected with the administration of numerous special taxes and fee programs. The BTA I reviews the audit and compliance processes and activities performed by employees to ensure compliance with BOE tax law, Board policies, procedures, goals and objectives. The results of the review and evaluation of audit and compliance functions are regularly reported to the section manager and branch administrator.
Typical functions include: Interpreting and applying provisions of the laws and rules, registering and licensing tax and fee payers; reviewing tax returns, reports and schedules; maintaining accounts receivable systems; managing delinquencies, investigating bankruptcies, searching for individuals and assets, collecting past due taxes and fees and providing advisory services. As part of these operational functions, the BTA I directs staff to conduct investigations, analyses and evaluations of taxpayer-provided documents, books and records, and financial documents. The BTA I integrates and applies practices, policies and procedures across both compliance and audit functions.
The BTA I also facilitates regular staff meetings, arranges training for new and existing employees and participates in the development and presentation of educational materials and information to tax and fee payers, interested parties, industry groups, and governmental agencies. The position is located in a high rise-building. All applicants will be considered however, SROA/Surplus will be given priority.
