Under the supervision of the Accounting Administrator II, the Accounting Officer (Specialist) performs professional accounting work in the establishment and maintenance of accounts and financial records for the Revenue Section. Considerable contact is made with the Program Areas, Budget Branch, Cashier Section and control agencies, such as State Controller’s Office (SCO), the State Treasurer’s Office, and the Department of Finance. Reconciles funds to SCO’s account balances on a monthly basis. Prepares correspondence to SCO to correct any discrepancies to the Controller’s accounts. Advises supervisor on the condition of accounts, researches and analyzes problems, and makes recommendations to management. Prepares adjusting and closing entries at fiscal year-end. Prepares the complicated year-end financial statements. Answers questions on these reports from control agencies and Board of Equalization management. Gathers and analyzes revenue accounting data to create monthly reports. Performs other duties as required. Knowledge of computer software programs, good communication, interpersonal, analytical, and customer service skills required. The position is located in a high-rise building. The position requires the incumbent to be fingerprinted. All applicants will be considered however, SROA/Surplus will be given priority.
Educational requirements: Equivalent to graduation from college, with specialization in accounting, or completion of the equivalent 19 semester hours of coursework including elementary and advanced accounting, auditing, cost accounting, and business law.
