This is a Limited Term Intermittent Position may work at a maximum of 1500 hours per calendar year.
Air Resources Technicians involved in the Portable Equipment Registration Program work under close supervision of Air Pollution Specialists and Engineers in performing technical and administrative duties throughout the portable equipment registration process. They determine eligibility of engines and equipment units, perform calculations for engineering evaluations, tabulate emission data, and compute emission limitations. Duties also include assisting in special projects, performing database queries for data analysis and compiling data for project evaluations. It is pertinent for Air Resources Technicians to stay current with regulation updates in order to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Administrative duties entail; working as the program liaison with ASD and industry accounts payable departments regarding accounts payable and receivable issues; answering questions and responding to information requests from the public and regulated industry either in person, over the phone or e-mail; and provide administrative support to Air Pollution Specialists and Engineers.
The successful candidate will have strong math, science, and organizational skills. Knowledge of basic air pollution control, internal combustion engine operation, and California’s air pollution control regulatory process is desirable. The candidate will have demonstrated the ability to evaluate and analyze information, using Excel/Access, synthesize and report information using Word and Powerpoint, and defend data and conclusions. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and persuasively orally and in writing. The candidate will have a history of courteous professional conduct in the workplace, including dealing with challenging stakeholders and presenting themselves in a professional manner. The candidate will have the ability to work predictable hours, part time, with reliable attendance.
