Job Description:

Information Technology Section (ITS) anticipates an opening for a Systems Software Specialist (SSS) III (Supervisor) (Supv).  Under the general supervision of the Data Processing Manager III, the SSS III (Supv) will perform as the California Highway Patrol Network and Security Unit (NSU) Manager.  The incumbent will serve as the interface between the Department’s Information Technology (IT) strategic and process based activities and the work of the NSU analysts responsible for database, network, and systems administration.  The SSS III (Supv) will translate IT risk requirements and constraints of the business into technical control requirements and specifications, as well as develop metrics for ongoing performance measurement and reporting.  The SSS III (Supv) will coordinate the Department’s technical activities as well as implement and manage security infrastructure and provide regular status and service level reports to management.

The SSS III (Supv) is a leadership role that will work with the Department’s IT organization and business management to align priorities and plans with key business objectives.  The SSS III (Supv) will act as an empowered representative of ITS during IT planning initiatives to ensure security measures are incorporated into strategic IT plans and that service expectations are clearly defined.  The SSS III (Supv) will also be responsible for working with the Department’s business and IT stakeholders to balance real world risks with business drivers such as speed, agility, flexibility, and performance.

In addition to supporting the Department’s IT policies and strategies, the SSS III (Supv) will prioritize work efforts, balancing operational tasks with long term strategic security efforts.  Other project management tasks will include resource balancing across multiple IT and security teams, task prioritizing and project reporting.  Important vendor relationships will be managed by the incumbent to ensure that service levels and vendor obligations are met.

Desirable Experience/Qualifications:  Well developed verbal, written, and strong communication skills, provide outstanding customer service, and possess good analytical skills.  Must be dependable, accurate, and team oriented.
