Job Description:

The Nutrition Services Division is looking for a dynamic manager to lead our Southern School Nutrition Programs Unit. If you have strong organizational, managerial, and interpersonal skills, can understand and interpret complex regulations, and enjoy working with a diverse field of local agencies and staff, we invite you to apply. Our unit serves schools and institutions that participate in School Nutrition Programs (SNP) and other government-funded programs to ensure California’s students receive nutritious, well-balanced meals.


  • Direct and supervise analysts responsible for SNP sponsors and policy; monitor and evaluate analyst performance and workload.
  • Ensure staff is knowledgeable of applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing school nutrition programs; assess documents and staff service for consistency with California Department of Education policies and standards.
  • Direct the formulation of strategies to carry out policies, programs and priorities relating to caseload management, policy dissemination, sponsor manuals, application approval/renewal, and provision of technical support to SNP sponsors.
  • Assess staff travel and training needs; conduct training; apply preventive and corrective employee supervisory techniques.
  • Attend and present at conferences and meetings; some travel required.


  • Strong managerial skills. Demonstrated success and experience in supervision in a team setting

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Familiarity with school nutrition programs
