Under direction from the Education Administrator I of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Office (STEM), and the Director of the Professional Learning Support Division, and working cooperatively with program units and managers throughout the Department, the Education Programs Consultant serves independently as the content expert for K-12 science professional development and initiatives.
Facilitate the development and implementation of state and local professional development initiatives focused on the science state standards.
Develop and support initiatives and programs focused on science, mathematics, and STEM education at all grade levels, including contract and project management and technical support to local educational agencies.
Write and prepare reports and other documents for state and local dissemination. Complete analyses of national reports, state reports, legislation, and respond to inquiries.
Collaborate with federal, state and local professional organizations.
Apply for federal, state, and private funding to support initiatives that further science, mathematics, and STEM education.
Independently develop, conduct, and participate in professional development and information dissemination activities, such as meetings, workshops, presentations, conferences, and other similar functions using various modes of delivery.
Perform other duties related to the office responsibilities: Participate in regular division and office staff meetings, prepare strategic plans, unit work plans, progress reports, weekly reports, performance appraisals, bill analysis requests, and complete other miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
Knowledge and understanding of and experience in science education particularly in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and professional development. Knowledge and experience in STEM education, programs, and related initiatives. Experience working with school districts, county offices of education, colleges, universities, and other education service providers. Excellent communication abilities (both written and verbal), strong interpersonal skills, and good organizational habits. A thorough understanding of the Superintendent and State Board of Education policies.
