DUTIES

Under the general supervision of the Education Research and Evaluation Administrator I of the Data Reporting Office, the Staff Information Systems Analyst (Specialist) will:

  • Develop complex special reports, queries and data runs specific to the user’s needs. Includes CDE staff, legislature, state, federal, and press media requests. Process student-level data requests by non-profit researchers that have been approved by the California Department of Education’s (CDE’s) Internal Review Board (IRB). Data includes complex longitudinal data from the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) as well as other educational data sourced from different program units in the Department. Works with end-users to refine and clarify reporting requirements. Perform analysis on CALPADS data to ensure data quality.
  • Maintain the most complex applications (desktop, Web, server) and databases using CDE standard development and automation tools – Microsoft Visual Studio, Microsoft .NET framework, Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft Office components. The incumbent follows CDE standards for application development, interface design, and database development, documenting all components and processes.
  • Prepare data files for the U.S. Department of Education’s EDEN reporting system using student, teacher, and course data available from CALPADS, as well as data from other sources including California Basic Educational Data System (CBEDS) and the Consolidated Application. Produce reports for Council of Chief State School Officers on Science and Mathematics Indicators. Prepare data files for Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for EEO5 reports.
  • Produce yearly standard reports from data sources identified above to meet state reporting requirements. Analyze and evaluate new methods of producing these reports. Produce data files and reports for the Internet. Develop and maintain static and dynamic routines for providing data access to the public of a wide variety of data files that are collected through the Division.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong Microsoft SQL Server database skills and Microsoft Visual Studio.NET experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact, judgment, and independence of action
  • Ability to work independently and on a team to ensure project deadlines are met
