Job Description:

Under general direction, in a State correctional facility or outpatient clinic in the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the Senior Psychologist (Specialist) performs difficult and responsible assignments relating to psychological assessment and treatment and serves as a department wide expert and psychology consultant in a specific psychology discipline, maintains order and supervises the conduct of inmates, protects and maintains the safety of persons and property, and does other related work.

Requirements (Minimum Qualifications):

ALL APPLICANTS must meet the minimum qualifications (MQs) of the classification, per SPB Rule 250, with the exception of Training & Development (T&D) Assignment. Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of an earned Doctorate Degree in Psychology from an educational institution.

Possession of a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology

Individuals who are in the process of securing a Psychologist license from the California Board of Psychology must secure a valid license within three years of appointment ,

and Experience: Either

Pattern I: One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Psychologist Clinical, Correctional Facility, or Staff Psychologist (any specialty), or

Pattern II: Two years of postdoctoral, postinternship experience in the practice of psychology involving assessment and treatment and either training, research, consultation, or program planning in mental health services.

This advertisement will be used for this and other permanent and/or limited term vacancies that may occur at Substance Abuse Treatment Facility during the life of the certification list.

PLEASE NOTE: Possession of MQs for list eligible applicants will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the MQs, the necessary steps will be taken to have the applicant’s name withheld from the eligibility list.

Candidates selected not currently employed with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and/or California Correctional Health Care Services shall be subject to a live scan fingerprinting process to obtain state (DOJ) and federal (FBI) clearances prior to employment.

Once a significant candidate pool is received, an internal cutoff period will be established and interviews will be scheduled.

This limited term position has the possibility of becoming permanent.
