Duty Statement:

Under the direct supervision of the Systems Software Specialist II (Supervisor) over the Network Services Unit in the Office of Information Services, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:

Network Administration

Assist in the installation, configuration and deployment of the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) Wide Area network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) devices. These devices include but not limited to routers, switches, firewalls, network utility servers and appliances. Assist in the maintenance and troubleshooting of the DIR network equipment to provide network resources to DIR employees.

Assist in the analysis and performance of the DIR network through the use of monitoring utilities, software and device logs. Assist in implementing and monitoring the DIR network infrastructure security best practices. Assist in the coordination and implementation of network infrastructure updates/upgrades. Create and revise existing documentation pertaining to network infrastructure and procedures.

Technical Support

Provide second tier technical support to DIR Service Desk personnel. Perform walkthroughs with DIR staff and cable vendors for site relocations and/or renovations.

Research and Evaluation

Assist in the researching of newer that may provide cost benefits or enhancements of the network infrastructure.


Attend classes, seminars, webinars and meetings pertaining to network related functionality.

Perform other duties as required.
