Job Description: Candidates are encouraged to apply pending exam results. Participants in the current BOE Civil Service Promotional Examination may apply for this vacancy; however, candidates must attain list eligibility to be eligible for appointment.
Under general supervision, the incumbent independently conducts the most difficult and complex audits. Generally, these accounts consist of the largest retailers, service concerns, construction contractors, manufacturers, wholesalers and other business enterprises reporting substantial tax liability and where reporting errors would probably involve significant additional taxes. Makes preliminary preparations such as reviewing the prior audit and the taxpayer’s file; makes the audit appointment; reviews the laws, regulations and rulings pertinent to the assignment; develops the audit program, determines the appropriate audit procedures to be performed and the scope of testing and explains the audit findings, and prepares appropriate audit reports and performs other related duties as necessary. This position may be required to rotate into the audit review position. This position is designated as 'mobile worker' per Board of Equalization Telework Policy and Guidelines. Candidate must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Meeting the training requirements for this position may require overnight travel for up to five consecutive nights.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: In order to be considered for this position, you must complete and submit responses to the following Supplemental Questionnaire (SQ) including:

2. Describe your experience presenting complex tax issues to taxpayers or representatives. Provide specific examples of the tax issues.

4. Describe your recent experience in developing cooperative working relationships, including problem resolution, peers and management.
